Volunteers are often needed to help fill the need for liturgical ministers at funerals, including the roles of ensemble singer, lector, altar server, welcome minister, sacristan, and usher. This is a rewarding ministry in which volunteers have the opportunity to express their support for the grieving through their participation in the funeral liturgy.
Time: Volunteers are typically contacted two or three days prior to the funeral and are generally needed during daytime hours, including Saturdays. Signing up for this ministry does not mean that one is expected to be available every time he or she is asked.
Gifts and talents: Anyone who can "carry a tune" and likes to sing is invited to sing with the adult funeral ministry volunteers. Other liturgical ministry positions are filled according to experience and ability in that particular liturgical function and guidance is provided as needed.
